With attributes such as all titanium hardware, a laminated torsion bar rotor hub and a reliable proven fuel injected engine, the AK1-3 emanates top quality and superior engineering throughout while maintaining low maintenance and operating costs.
The modern Enigma glass panel provides all the visceral input for monitoring the entire aircraft and its environment and includes all the latest GPS enabled options as well as a standard VFR panel. A wide cabin provides comfortable command of the ship and even affords adjustable seat positions to accommodate variances in pilot and passenger size. All this enclosed within a spectacular wrap around view.
Other important features are economy and performance. At a minimal fuel burn of only 7.4 to 9.35 gph of unleaded 95 octane your AK1-3 won't strain the budget and is a significant improvement over other offerings in this class of helicopter. With a 115 mph maximum speed and a comfortable cruise rate reaching 100 mph you'll realize a range of 200 miles at climb rates of up to 1800 fpm and reach a ceiling of almost 10,000 where a pressurized cabin would become necessary.

Flight Training

ROTOR F/X is pleased to offer flight
training packages specifically for experimental helicopter builders and
owners. We
have designed a modified version of our private pilot helicopter
course specifically for your requirements.
For experimental class owners we offer our private training course with an instructor who has many hours logged in experimental helicopters. Although necessarily similar to normal private rating training that we provide, this will be focused with extra attention on the specific and unique requirements setting up, maintaining and flying an experimental class helicopter. Regular FAA private training requirements apply.
Training at Van Nuys is a unique experience. Helicopter traffic is so prevalent we have our own tower frequency at 119.0 and we house operations for dozens of helicopters for news, fire, police, sheriff, highway patrol, training, movies, charter, and corporate. You will see almost every variety of helicopter from trainer to the giant Ericsson Skycrane and flight in this environment will prepare you for anything.
SimulatorFor both types of training we also have a new and unique dual hover trainer available after March 16th. This will enable you to learn and practice hovering on the ground in the hangar. It is similar in basic concept to the "Heli-Chair" but is much more advanced, computer controlled and built into a two place airframe so an instructor can train you. This simulator is available for rental by the hour as available until 10pm daily. As a bonus it doubles as a PC simulator with a 42" screen so you can practice on your favorite PC sim in off times (we have X-Plane, Microsoft X, G4 and others) - hourly rates are waived and this is free for Mosquito pilots while you are attending our training programs.
Please Note: Simulator will teach you to hover expertly and provide hours of precision practice but is not yet approved to log towards any FAA or other ratings
Training Accommodations

Air-Tel Plaza Hotel and Convention Center, conveniently situated right on the
airport with a front row seat to the famous "16 Right" at Van Nuys.
When booking just mention you are training at ROTOR F/X to get the
discount. It couldn't be easier - if you arrive at LAX,
collect your bags and step onto the concourse where the big blue
Van Nuys Fly-Away luxury coach
comes by every 30-45 minutes. For $6.00 it will take you to
Van Nuys Fly-Away
terminal where you will be picked up by shuttle for the three block
trip to the hotel. If you do want a car rental it is available at the hotel and can be arranged at
booking time or on your arrival. You'll be picked up and returned to
the hotel for each lesson. Enjoy your stay at the busiest GA
airport on the planet and feel free to take in all the Los
Angeles area has to offer. Airport and tower tours are available at
the airport as well.
